It's been a while...

Hello all,

Apparently I have some stuff that I saved, written on June 06th, 2010. That was almost four months ago, but the content is still very applicable to this very moment, so here it is:

"So. It has really been quite a while since I've last posted anything on
this blog. I just realised it's been almost ten months!! Whoa. My apologies.

A lot has been happening in the past several months. I now have a job
[yay!]...since November actually! I think the main thing that has happened is
that I have [somewhat] a new outlook on life. For someone who lives caught up in
the web of imagination most of the time, it's hard to come to terms with
reality. Now, this may make me sound a little unstable, but it's a daily
struggle I lead - facing reality. Hmm. Perhaps I shouldn't use the word 'reality' but rather 'purpose of life'.

It is important for us to remember, each and every day that we are blessed
with life, why we are on Planet Earth, and our purpose here. It's important to
remember that we do make a difference, no matter how small we may think
it. Not everyone can be famous, not everyone can be rich, not everyone can be
drop dead gorgeous, but we all have our place and our part on Earth. Like I saw
on a mural on a wall outside a high-school today: "Realise your self-worth."

I think that is what I have been trying to understand. I think that is what
most of us spend our lives trying to understand: our self-worth. Who we are. Our
reason for being. How much what we do and who we are matters to everyone else on
Earth."

I wish I could add more to this, but no matter how much I try this is as good as it gets for now. Just remember to smile everyday :)

Skully.

The above picture was taken last weekend, in Tobago. At first I didn't like it because the clouds blocked the actual sun, but then I realised that they actually make the sunrise more beautiful. Of course the little bird by the pool helps too! :)

A reminder for us all

Why is it that people feel the need to seek advice only from persons older than themselves? No. I say it doesn’t make sense. After all, younger persons remind you of where you once were…where you’re coming from. Their freshness and eagerness is a reminder of your previous zeal to excel at whatever is your true passion.

Age is not a measure of wisdom, and certainly not of inspiration. Older persons will have experience to share; yes there is no doubt to that. However along with that experience, they often share negative feelings, twisted and (obviously) subjective views on the topic.

I should make myself a bit clearer. I’m specifically speaking here about careers and job options, not everything in life. Older persons, I find often distract you from what it is you really wish to do, and you find yourself confused and lost as to what you should actually do. They distract and make you question yourself. Now, questioning yourself is good, but not too much! It leaves you with numerous doubts as to whether what you’re doing is the correct thing, and may result in not going ahead with what you really and truly wanted to. Connecting with younger, inexperienced people remind you why you wanted to do something in the first place, and why you love it. It gives you that final push to go ahead and do what you love. See, the thing is that very few people don’t have to choose between doing what they love and really want to do, and what they should do because the two are the same. The majority of persons in the world, however, have to make that decision. Should I go ahead and pursue what I love? Or should I just take this job? Who knows I may grow to like it? Nooooo. You won’t. Well…most likely not. Deciding to go against what you should do, and do what you love to do is a huge risk. Is what you love worth the risk?

I would say most people who are out there doing what they love took a big risk when they decided to do that, a risk akin to jumping off a bridge into a river. So. Now the question is: can you swim? Can you swim against the current? There’s only one way to find out. JUMP.

N.B. Please don’t misunderstand me. I fully understand the need to inquire about a profession or business field before venturing forth, and the importance of hearing from people in the relevant field. I’m just reminding you to connect with your earlier, younger selves and seek out your reasons behind wanting to do what you desire.

21 Guns - Green Day

Sometimes at the oddest moment you find inspiration, or you find the strength to do what you've needed to do for days, weeks or months. Sometimes you're doing what you think is right, and you think that you're being strong, but really you're being weak. Sometimes you know everyone around you is right, but just taking the decision that will let them know they're right is the hardest thing to do! And so you do the opposite of what they want, even if it is the opposite of what you want, and you think it's strength, but really it's weakness and stubborness and ignorance, and most of all, pride! Good ol' stinking pride gets you every time.

I want to post the lyrics to this song, 21 Guns, and I hereby want to personally thank Green Day for helping me in my personal life yet again, and for breaking my pride just when it needed it most.

21 Guns

Do you know what's worth fighting for,
When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take your breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating?
Does the pain weigh out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Did someone break your heart inside?
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I

When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins.

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I

Did you try to live on your own
When you burned down the house and home?
Did you stand too close to the fire?
Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone

When it's time to live and let die
And you can't get another try
Something inside this heart has died
You're in ruins.

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky,
You and I

by Green Day

Their present album 21st Century Breakdown focuses on exactly that, the 21st century breakdown, and hits on political and global issues. This song in particular seems to me to be referring to pointless wars and other pointless acts: "Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone"

The lines that really spoke to me personally tonight were:
"Do you know what's worth fighting for, when it's not worth dying for" and
"Lay down your arms, give up the fight."

I love this song. Have a listen here and be judge for yourself. It may just seem a song to you now, but at some point, some day it will just hit you and its relevance will be real to you then, if not now.

Sleep, snakes and sphotos. hehe.

Well hello there fellow humanoids of the world.

This morning I am awake after sleeping 10 hours...an amazing feat, considering that I've been sleeping about 2 - 3 hours for the past month. Not due to insomnia, but rather having too much to do! Yes, and how does a person who has too much to do find the time to constantly tweet, be on FB, and write a blog? Usually I find the more a person has to do, the more they get done. Hmm...let me explain properly. Usually if there's nothing much to do, time gets filled with purposeless (though fun) things, like talking on the phone for hours, going here and there, watching TV etc. If you have many things to do, then whatever leftover awake time you have, gets spent doing more things, because you're so in the habit of being busy I guess. Whatever. I am simply rambling now :/

So there's a hike planned for the 23rd of this month. Usually I would go, but this time I'm not so sure. It's to Rincon Falls, a beautiful place I'm sure. At this time of year snakes are very active, so it's not uncommon to see one (or several) along the hike trail! The only problem with that is that the snakes seen are usually mapipires, one of the only two venomous snake species found in Trinidad (the other being Coral snakes). Just yesterday a friend was telling me of a hike he went on last weekend. They encountered three mapipires, and one guy got bitten! It's a bit scary to think about, considering that without treatment he would've died. Of course now there is antivenom, but (I believe) it's only available at hospitals, so you'd need to get to the hospital pretty quickly. If you're hiking somewhere up in the mountains, that's hard to do! Especially if you're far along the hike trail. Oh well. Despite all of the snakes, that's not the reason I'm not going. Well, I'm not sure. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but hmm. On the plus side, that's a great opportunity to get some good photographs.

It's been a while since I've taken some first class photos. I mean, some of the best I took right in my backyard, but I need to go places also! That reminds me, I really need to look into getting a new camera.

Wow....My very first blog!!! :)

HELLO World out there.

Welcome to my blog. I never wanted to have a blog before because my personal journal always cut it. But recently I've just been feeling to write and write, and also I'm addicted to twitter, but of course that's just 140chars/update, and I'm not sure the twitterverse wants to know that much about my life.

As anyone who knows what's going on in the Green Day world right now would know...my blog title comes directly from their new album (release date: May 15th), 21st Century Breakdown. Two radio stations streamed 6 new songs from their album tonight (okay, well last night - Monday!). Hmm...and oh my, trust me when I say that's some of the best music I have ever heard! I can't wait to get the album!!

I should be studying right now...I have my first final exam in about 13.5 hours :/ I do NOT look forward to it!

Okay, well that's it for my very first blog post.... hahaha!! Yes, I needed to put that in Italics. Soon I will update my blog description and let you know more about me, and this blog, and of course the more you read, the more you'll learn! :)

Bye for now.
